Local groups working together towards ridding Kaitaia of single use plastic.
Making people aware of the impact single use plastic has on the environment and encourage them to reduce their use of it. Plastic Free Kaitaia tries to involve local businesses by asking them to reconsider their plastic policy.
During Plastic Free July they organise a range of events to create awareness such as: a market stall on the Saturday market, working bees to make t- shirt bags and much more. You can read blog posts about PFK activities here.
This year Plastic Free Kaitaia is focused on reducing the use of both plastic straws and takeaway coffee cups.
On Saturday June 29th Kaitaia’s very own reusable cup will be launched at the market: ‘ Kai-taia kapu’ . And each cup comes with a voucher for a free coffee!
